Is Exercise Causing You to Gain Weight?

Many people start out on the right foot when planning a weight loss program, and add and exercise program to enhance weight loss. But could it be that your exercise program is causing you to gain weight? It is if you are increasing your caloric intake to compensate for calorie expenditure from exercising.

The positive benefits of exercise cannot be underestimated. But many people experience increased hunger from the calories burned when exercising and consequently ingest increased calories to make up the difference. The result is an increased weight gain.

Another way exercise may increase weight gain is the direct result of the body muscle mass. Muscles weigh more than body fat; when we exercise and build up our muscles we tend to see an increase on the scales. Not to worry, the increase will eventually balance out and weight loss will occur as the muscles displace the fat.

One of the best things a person can do in any weight loss program is to increase the amount of fluid ingestion. Water is the best way to increase fluids, and helps to flush toxins from the body that are present as a result of breakdown of fatty tissues. Water also can help satisfy the hunger after exercising. Remember to weigh yourself at the same time everyday; as body fluids tend to shift throughout the day you may see a difference in your weight in the morning versus nighttime.
